Drum Mixer and Drum Mics?

I am thinking of buy mics for my drums, I want to stay pretty cheap because I am just going to do covers/basement recording, nothing special. But I am confused on a mixer, if I mic my bass drum, two toms, snare, and two overhead/condenser mics do I need a mixer with 8 XLR inputs? They usually come with 4 or 8 and I will buy a 7 mic set. If I only mic two toms I can double mic my bass drum. I will use all seven probably, the extra tom mic on the bass drum. What would be a good mixer, I need help because I know nothing about mixers. Also, condenser mics use XLR cable too right? Any advice about drum mics and mixers will be appreciated. Thanks.
