Help picking a camcorder?

I'm trying to pick a camcorder to make films. I narrowed down to 2 camcorders. But its not that simple. I need a new camcorder by january, if i want my next film to be good. But I cant afford the one i want at the moment. The first is The Panasonic AG-DVX100A MiniDV. The second is the Panasonic HMC40. The first records on minidvs, and the second is flash memory. The first has xlr, and the second needs an adapter. Can someone please helm me? Should I wait a long time, or get the cheaper one now?
